X Games

Wayfinding That’s Cold to the Touch

The XGAMES is a very well known extreme sporting event that takes place all over the world. It’s an event that appeals to a very niche market, but a market that is whole-heartedly invested in it.

In the design of the two XGAMES Norway maps the redesigned logo is the focus. The new X is reflective of both the winter aspect of the games and Norway’s climate, as well as captures the hard- edged spirit of XGAMES attendees. The X is meant to look as if it had formed solely from ice and it features crystalline growths, sharp ice spikes, and icicles. The typographic elements are set in a clean sans serif typeface that allows the X to shine. The maps take a very minimalist approach to function without sacrificing it. Both maps are meant to give the most simple directions possible and distill information into its simplest form.

The additional features of the map, such as extraneous buildings take a back seat to anything that is of importance. Despite this utilitarian approach, the map is meant to be an object of value to the attendee and become a keepsake that could easily be displayed on a wall.
