Magical Branding for Magical Skin Care

This project was created as a part of the Young Designers Competition run by ICMAD [Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors]. In the competition the designers are tasked with the creation of an original cosmetics brand and the packaging of a branded product (the product is defined by the competition runners), along with the design of both its primary packaging and secondary packaging. The relatively open ended prompt is intended to foster creativity and allow participants freedom to choose whatever kind of brand or target they'd like.

I created Beautiful Creatures as the overarching brand for a night cream entitled “Nocturnal.“ The brand is intended to carry an air of magic with an ever so slight edge. It should also convey itself as a boutique, handcrafted product with a niche market. After working with several different ideas in terms of naming, including “amsir” the Celtic word for nature and “modraniht” an ancient Anglo- Saxon festival, I settled on “beautiful creatures” something that I felt would relate more to the average person. The logo is a highly detailed illustration of a death’s head moth, the embodiment of the look I’m trying to achieve.
